jus watched an episode of The Practice. the show was talking abt how a innocent bystander of a shoot out got caught in the heat of things and became accused by the police (who thinks he's guilty) for the murder of an officer. long stuory cut short, the episode showed jus how unscrupulous police may obtain their evidences or the process of getting it, that sometimes, civil and human rights are blatantly dismissed "for the good of catching the bad guy".

is it ever justifiable for any law enforcement agencies (or any agencies for that matter) to utilise torture or other forms of treatment that blatantly violates human and civil right abuses in order to achieve what they percieve is "right"?
where does the rights of a person stand when in the face of the law? can it coexist?
a good show, a really good episode.
